Tim Behren - curator of CircusDanceFestival, Vera Sander - director of the Center for Contemporary Dance (ZZT) at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne (HfMT), Breno Caetano - multidisciplinary artist and lecturer at the ZZT, Emma Stacey - student at the ZZT and participant of the Creation lab, enter into a conversation with Jean-Michel Guy - circus director and researcher in this field.
It is about reasons for the initiative and about the common reflection of the experiences in the exchange between the dance academy (ZZT/HfMT) in Cologne and the circus academy from Brussels (ESAC). How can an artistic "community" emerge in the shared language of bodies in movement. In the respectively unfamiliar new field of the practice of circus and contemporary dance, moments of instability emerge that can be experienced as a space of creativity. As relevant as the distinction between disciplines may be for one's own location and artistic career, in CreationLab's video performance the distinction between dancer:in and circus artist:in becomes almost obsolete. The university collaboration brings a spirit of optimism for the schools to open up more and more interdisciplinary.
