Voices Magazine is being published this year as a preview to a milestone in the visibility of contemporary circus in Germany. In cooperation with the CircusDanceFestival, the publishing house Theater der Zeit is dedicating its annual workbook to an up-to-date inventory of contemporary circus – comprising over 150 pages.
Jenny Patschovsky moderates a relaxed round of talks in which circus artists meet experts from the fields of dramaturgy, circus sciences and other humanities. The starting point of these talks is the attempt to take on a non-anthropocentric view of contemporary circus, which also characterizes this year's CircusDanceFestival program.
The pressing issues are: How can we change the way we think and speak about beings, things and objects previously ignored as active agents in the circus? With this approach, a change of values and appreciation is also inevitable: this not only affects and questions the self-image of the circus.
