Ancient gods, classical heroes, soldiers, and athletes - they all bear the same burden: glorification of masculine power. Throughout history, this has often led to the celebration of war, aggression, and violence. With the title "VanThorhout", Alexander Vantournhout refers to Thor, the Germanic god. This Figure is until today one of the most famous embodiments of the phenomenon, or respectively, of the problem. Thor is exceptionally strong, can unleash thunderstorms, and lives on nowadays mostly in comics and films. Always In his hands or within reach: the Mjölnir, a hammer with an incredibly short handle. Alexander enters the stage as Thor with his own Mjölnir. But is it possible to create new imaginaries of men departing from one of their most stereotypical characters? The artistic relationship between object and performer circles the question insistently and remains ambivalent in its display and possible attempts to answer it. Weight and counterweight as an Expression of an embedded struggle: When does control of the hammer slip away? What if images of masculine power could actually dissolve or at least become more fluid?
