What exactly characterises circus art, what significance does it have and what could even be an attempt to define circus art? In the documentary film THINKING CIRCUS, various European circus artists have their say in answering these questions. Arne Mannott gathers the multitude of voices into a film that reports on the artistic potential of different circus styles through the generations. Artists from contemporary circus meet their (more) classical colleagues. Not only do different approaches to this art form become clear, but above all, shared basic ideas about circus emerge. Solidarity, sharing and passing on of knowledge and the value of community in the circus are given a new appreciation.
