With GLORIOUS BODIES, choreographer Piet Van Dycke brings a piece of living circus history to the stages of Cologne. In this contemporary circus performance six acrobats aged between 55 and 68, with a background in classical partner acrobatics, show their perspectives, strength, and fragility. This piece explores with a tender gaze how artists' bodies change over time. GLORIOUS BODIES expresses how circus artists can artfully make peace with their changing abilities. The piece sheds a warm light on the process of ageing and points to something we are all experiencing ourselves - right now in this moment.
Worth seeing because
GLORIOUS BODIES celebrates its German premiere at the CircusDanceFestival 2024 in Cologne. An installation with video portraits of each of the six artists' personal stories accompanies the piece. It can be visited on the festival site. Piet Van Dycke and his company Circumstances were already guests at the festival last year with the piece EXIT and captivated the Cologne audience with sold-out performances.
