In the center, the performance; the audience all around. The circle is one of the most original forms of social gathering — familiar in the circus as the ring or circus arena. The 360° open-air stage of the CircusDanceFestival is a contemporary interpretation of this principle.

Here, young international artists present their latest short pieces. The 360° Circus & Dance program comprises a total of twelve works, which will be shown over three days. The 360° open air format is the annual highlight and the beating heart of the festival.

Contemporary circus meets its counterpart in dance. But there is also room for works that move in between or on the fringes of this genre. Spectacular meets quiet tones, humor meets avant-garde. In short: anything is possible if it is 360°. And that is only possible with you, dear audience.

La signature

“La signature” is an excerpt from the play (H)OOPS. It is a playful yet subtle reflection on the essence of the air ring and delves deep into an inclusive utopia. Between soaring heights and pausing for breath, Iliana Atamanuk searches for the essence of an artistic signature and shows what remains when the pose falls away. Her processes of doubt and discovery are playful, vulnerable and extravagant. In this exploration between acrobatic finesse and a good dose of humor, she deconstructs the mechanisms of spectacle with a wink.

TRACES

“TRACES” is a poetic and powerful exploration of body, space and time on inline skates. Mohammed Ech-Charquaouy lives in Paris and has a background in hip-hop dance. He combines dance and skating to create a unique, hybrid language of movement. Between control and letting go, a play with gravity and freedom emerges. He leaves traces of an intimate search for meaning and identity.

Oru & Kreya

The flow of water and the unexplored nature of the ocean – these are the water worlds where the brightly colored intergalactic beings Oru & Kreya actually live. Upon their arrival on Earth, they encounter a powerful new player for the first time: gravity. This is a duo with surreal charm and fluid moves: swarming dancers who rediscover human emotions and worldly dependencies in a sensual journey.

Risa y olvido/ Of Laughter and Forgetting

Can a dark underlying feeling be transformed into liberating weightlessness? If so, then through the danced interpretation of this poem: “Again and again, in the deepest abyss, you try to find yourself—again and again. Endless dreams, I wake naked, the cold wind devouring my hopes, freezing my longing for light into an endless torment”. In her staging of her words, Spain-based dancer Yu-Hsien Hsueh dedicates herself to resistance in destruction. She illuminates what we laugh about and moves what we want to forget.
