A man. A stick. A TV. That's all it takes – and yet an entire world of movement, balance and meaning emerges.
What begins simply becomes a confusing game that is as fun as it is clever. The stick wanders over the head, hands and feet – in constant dialogue and incessant motion. But what exactly are we seeing? In the background, the TV comments on the action. Sawdust and levels of interpretation swirl wildly together. Is this just commentary – or has the screen long since been determining what we see?
In “Stickman”, Darragh McLoughlin juggles our viewing habits with precision and minimalist flair. The Irish artist shows how easily perception can be controlled – and how exciting it can be to take a closer look.
