The CircusDanceFestival initiates interdisciplinary exchange and creation projects between European dance and circus universities.
CircusDance Creation Lab
The CircusDanceFestival invites 5 students of the ZZT Cologne (Zentrum für Zeitgenössischen Tanz) and 3 students of the ESAC Brussels (École supérieure des arts du cirque) to take part in a 3-week Creation Lab to design and occupy a physical space. Each cooperation partner will invite the Creation Lab to their own building for one week. In this way, the students will discover the two study contexts in Brussels and in Cologne.
At the centre of the working process is an encounter between the students that unfolds between these questions: How do we live together? What role does the individual play in this? The starting point for the joint artistic process is a socio-political understanding of togetherness. Starting from commonalities, the individual is celebrated, imagined, invented and performed together.
Following the final residency phase, the results of the Creation Lab will be presented at the CircusDanceFestival.
The Creation Lab process is led by Breno Caetano. As a multidisciplinary artist with a background in circus and dance, he draws on a wealth of experience to explore with the students their own artistic perspectives and personal thinking spaces. In an interdisciplinary enquiry, art and thought, theory and practice, as well as different forms of existence and different creative processes are explored, with the search for a common language as the vanishing point.
The university cooperation between the ZZT Cologne and the ÉSAC Brussels already took place in 2020 and 2021. The results in the form of filmic works were presented as digital contributions at the CircusDanceFestival 2021 and discussed in a follow-up meeting between the project participants.
Under the parragraph University Cooperations in the CDFthek the documentations can be seen.
