Residency 2021

Residency 12 – November 2021 | Crispin Bade & Bar Gonen

Acoustic Resonance is an interdisciplinary duet of contemporary dance and rope artistry that explores the complexities of human communication. In this piece, two performers from different disciplines – circus and dance – with different mother tongues and cultural contexts – Israel and Germany – meet and seek mutual understanding through movement. Inspired by the phenomenon of acoustic resonance, in which acoustic waves mix with each other and sound is amplified as a result, in this piece we work with the vibrations of the vertical rope and two bodies that try to find each other and yet keep disturbing each other.

On November 07, 2021 the CircusDanceFestival invites everybody to the residency Showing. More information can be found here.

Residency 11 – April 2021 | Breno Caetano & Sergi Pares

Breno Caetano & Sergi Pares visiting Kunsthafen from 05. – 11.04.2021

Breno Caetano and Sergi Parés’ artistic works span the fields of circus, dance and installation. Their choreographies are expressions of a curious practice of exploring bodies and their possibilities. Both have had multidisciplinary training and subsequently worked a long time for established companies in dance and circus (including: Batsheva Dance Company, Philippe Decouflé, Marine Mane, Un loup pour l’homme, Compagnie XY and Anton Lachky). In their new work under their own authorship, the two now meet as a duet. “Cornerstone” is influenced by cultural, social and historical perspectives on human evolution.

Breno Caetano and Sergi Parés use their bodies as instruments and in this way question the basic principles of power as well as our positioning and bias towards it. The means of choice are fine ropes that create and make visible connections and dependencies between two bodies. Their piece becomes a bodily manifesto for a necessity of consideration and trust that must always be remembered and renegotiated. Documentary filmmaker Filip Jacobson visited the duo in Cologne during the creation of “Cornerstone” as well as at their home in Brussels, providing insights into the working methods of Breno Caetano and Sergi Parés.

Residency 10 – February 2021 | Sinking Sideways

Company Sinking Sideways visiting ehrenfeldstudios from 08. – 14.02.2021

Sinking Sideways, that’s Xenia Bannuscher (DE) und Dries Vanwalle (BE). Both graduated as dance acrobats from the Circus department of the Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam (NL) in July 2020. Sinking Sideways is working at the crossroad of circus and dance. Dries’ background lies in circus, Xenias lies in dance. And their discipline is inspired by both of these art forms.

Our first creation called René is based around one movement, which is repeated time and again. There’s two bodies in space, continuously moving in sync, staying in one rhythm at all times, never standing still. We invite the audience to follow our movement, discover it new every time, to let themselves in on all the details. We want to share our process and our outcome openly with the viewers, we want to invite them to see our struggles and our fascination.

René will premier in October 2021 in Kortrijk (BE) with PERPLX festival.
